Where it all began?

“It started with one uniform. For one child. But the impact reached far beyond our home.”

Little Finches was born from a very personal struggle. One that resonates deeply with many parents of neurodivergent or sensory-sensitive children. Our founder, a dedicated mum, faced daily challenges dressing her young son for school. What should have been a simple routine often turned into a distressing experience, not because of reluctance, but because of the uniform.

Issues with Standard Schoolwear

Most school uniforms were filled with sensory irritants:

  • Tight Collars
  • Itchy Tags/ Labels
  • Scratchy Seams
  • Prickly Embroidery on the Skin Side
  • Uncomfortable Waistbands

These seemingly small details caused immense discomfort for her son, making it difficult for him to focus or feel at ease. Despite trying various brands and even specialist international options, she couldn’t find anything suitable or affordable.

Designing a Better Solution

Unwilling to settle, she took matters into her own hands. Armed with a sewing machine and a clear goal - comfort, function, and dignity - she began tailoring schoolwear to her son's specific needs.

Key design changes included:

  • V-neck tops instead of tight crew necks
  • Dropped necklines in polo shirts
  • Wider, softer, waistbands for joggers, trousers, and skirts
  • Flat-lock seams to prevent irritation
  • Tag-free garments

These thoughtful modifications made a remarkable difference. Her son felt calmer, freer, and more focused and soon, other parents began to take notice.

Building a Purpose-Driven Brand

This wasn’t just a personal solution. It was a widespread need. With encouragement from her community, she made the bold leap to start Little Finches - a brand committed to creating sensory-friendly, inclusive schoolwear that’s also affordable and accessible.

Her husband joined the mission, helping secure support from an angel investor in India who shared their vision. Together, they began building Little Finches not just as a clothing line - but as a movement for inclusion. After extensive research, they partnered with a reputable and ethical manufacturer in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, a textile hub known for innovation and integrity.

  • Fabric Knitting: Engineered to move with the child’s body.
  • Dyeing & Bio-Washing: For vibrant, long-lasting, and soft fabric.
  • Pattern Cutting & Stitching: Constructed with flat-lock seams for comfort.
  • No Internal Tags/ Labels: Only easy-peel stickers for care instructions.
  • Ethical Packing & Shipping: Delivered with care to the UK.
